Conservation Supplies & Equipment in Singapore

In short: Micrographics Data supplies the housing, treatment and environment equipment a museum, archive or library needs to keep physical collections stable — acid-free boxes and folders to ISO 16245, polyester encapsulation, AirBench dust and fume extraction, treatment tables and humidification, environmental monitoring and archival shelving — specified to the collection and installed by our team in Singapore.

The same materials are used in our own boxing, encapsulation and disinfestation services, so recommendations come from handling collections, not a catalogue.

Match the enclosure to the material

"Acid-free" on its own says little. Archival board is defined by lignin content, pH, alkaline reserve and — for anything touching photographs — a pass on the Photographic Activity Test. Buffered board protects paper; unbuffered board is required for photographs, textiles and protein-based materials.

Send us the format mix and quantities and we will specify enclosures, or quote the rehousing as a service.

Dust and fume extraction for treatment areas

Dry cleaning, mould remediation and solvent-based treatment each release something the operator should not breathe. Downdraft benches pull particulates and spores through the work surface into HEPA filtration; extraction arms and filtered cabinets capture solvent vapour at source.

Micrographics Data is the Singapore supplier for AirBench and specifies airflow to the tasks your lab performs, from a single bench to a full conservation studio fit-out.

Downdraft benches

Pull dust, mould spores and eraser debris through the work surface into HEPA filtration.

Fume extraction

Articulated arms and filtered cabinets capture solvent and adhesive vapour at source.

Sizing

Airflow specified to the treatment tasks, bench size and number of operators.

Installation

Delivered, installed and filter-serviced in Singapore; replacement filters supplied on order.

Procurement

National institutions, statutory boards and public universities procure through GeBIZ, where Micrographics Data is a registered supplier. Specification sheets and material test data are provided with every quotation.

Museums and archives across Southeast Asia are supplied from Singapore stock.

Buy or outsource?

We quote both ways

Buy supplies when in-house staff house material as it arrives. A one-off rehousing of a backlog, an infestation, or a mould outbreak usually favours our services — boxing and encapsulation, nitrogen anoxia and disinfestation. Send the collection size and we will show the comparison.

FAQ

Buying conservation supplies in Singapore

Microfilm storage cabinets and film supplies are under Microfilm Equipment.

What does archival quality or acid-free actually mean?

Archival housing is lignin-free board or paper with a pH of 7.5–9.5, usually with a 2–3% calcium carbonate alkaline reserve, and passes the Photographic Activity Test (ISO 18916) where it touches photographs. ISO 16245 defines requirements for boxes and folders. "Acid-free" alone is not sufficient; ask for the specification sheet.

Buffered or unbuffered boxes?

Buffered board suits paper, books and most manuscripts. Unbuffered board is used for photographs, textiles, blueprints and protein-based materials such as parchment or leather, where alkalinity can cause damage. Micrographics Data supplies both and will advise per collection.

Do you make custom-sized boxes?

Yes. Drop-spine boxes, four-flap enclosures, phase boxes and oversize folders are made to measure for rare books, maps, plans and objects. Send dimensions or we measure on site.

What is encapsulation and is it the same as lamination?

No. Encapsulation seals a document between two sheets of inert polyester with welded or taped edges; nothing adheres to the document and it can be removed at any time. Lamination bonds plastic to the paper with heat or adhesive and is irreversible — it is not used in conservation.

What extraction is needed in a conservation lab?

Dry cleaning, mould remediation and solvent work each need local exhaust. Downdraft benches capture particulates and spores at the work surface through HEPA filtration; extraction arms and filtered cabinets handle solvent vapour. We specify airflow to the tasks performed and install in Singapore.

Which institutions do you supply?

National and university libraries, national and corporate archives, museums, religious institutions and law firms with historical records, in Singapore and across Southeast Asia. Government buyers procure through GeBIZ, where we are a registered supplier.

Can you box the collection for us?

Yes. We offer acid-free boxing and encapsulation as a service, including condition survey, measurement, custom enclosures and labelling. Buy supplies when in-house staff will house material over time; use the service for a one-off rehousing project.

Do you supply environmental monitoring?

Yes. Temperature, humidity and light data loggers, hygrometers and UV meters for storage and display areas, along with silica gel and humidity-control products for showcases.
