Microfilm & Motion Film Equipment in Singapore
In short: Micrographics Data supplies everything an institution needs to write, process, duplicate, read and digitise microfilm — archive writers, NextScan and ViewScan scanners, processors, densitometers, film rolls and chemistry — plus ECN-2 processors for colour motion picture film. Equipment is installed, commissioned and serviced by our technicians in Singapore.
The same line runs our own microfilming and microfilm scanning bureau, so recommendations come from daily operation, not a catalogue.
Start with the step in the film workflow
Archive writers
Write TIFF, PDF and JPEG images to 16mm or 35mm silver-halide film — a human-readable copy of digital collections, rated up to 500 years (LE-500).
Production microfilm scanners
Ribbon-scan whole rolls, cartridges, fiche and aperture cards at high speed with software frame detection.
Reader-scanners
Reading-room stations to view, print and save frames from roll film, fiche and cards on demand.
Microfilm processors
Compact deep-tank processors for 16mm and 35mm silver film, with replenishment and drying.
ECN-2 motion film processors
Colour negative cinema film processing including remjet removal, for labs, schools and photographers.
Film rolls and chemistry
Silver-halide camera film, diazo and vesicular duplicating stock, developer, fixer and test kits.
What a microfilm line needs, stage by stage
A preservation microfilm programme has five stages: write, process, test, duplicate and access. Each stage has one class of equipment and a governing standard. Missing a stage — most often testing — is what turns a 500-year medium into an unverified one.

ECN-2 processors for colour negative cinema film
ECN-2 is the Kodak process for colour negative motion picture stock — Vision3 50D, 250D, 200T and 500T, ORWO and similar. It differs from C-41 in chemistry, temperature and the removal of the carbon remjet anti-halation layer, so still-photo minilab equipment cannot run it correctly.
Micrographics Data supplies compact ECN-2 processing lines for film labs, film schools and photographers shooting respooled cinema film, together with chemistry sourcing and operator training.
Full ECN-2 sequence
Prebath, remjet removal, developer, stop, bleach, fix, wash and stabiliser at controlled temperature.
Formats
8mm, 16mm and 35mm motion picture stock; respooled 35mm still cassettes.
Chemistry sourcing
ECN-2 kits and replenishers supplied with the processor, with safety and disposal guidance.
Who buys them
Film labs, film schools, archives with cinema collections, and photographers shooting Vision3.
Government agencies, statutory boards and national institutions procure through GeBIZ, where Micrographics Data is a registered supplier with a record of microfilm equipment and service contracts.
Regional archives and libraries across Southeast Asia are supplied and commissioned from Singapore.
We quote both ways
A continuing programme with trained staff justifies an in-house line. A one-off backfile, small annual volumes, or a lab without quality-control capacity usually favours our bureau. Send the volumes and we will show the comparison.

Buying microfilm equipment in Singapore
Paper, book and film-strip scanners are under Document & Book Scanners.
What is an archive writer?
An archive writer exposes digital images onto 16mm or 35mm silver-halide microfilm, producing a human-readable, hardware-independent preservation copy with a rated life of 500 years under ISO 18911 storage. It is the standard way to create a long-term analogue backup of a scanned or born-digital collection.
Is microfilm still made and who supplies the film?
Yes. Silver-halide microfilm in 16mm and 35mm, plus diazo and vesicular duplicating film, remains in production. Micrographics Data supplies film, processing chemistry and duplicating film from Singapore.
Which microfilm scanner do we need?
For occasional look-up and printing in a reading room, a ViewScan-class reader-scanner. For digitising hundreds of rolls or thousands of fiche, a NextScan production ribbon scanner captures a whole roll as one image and segments frames in software — faster and more consistent.
What does an ECN-2 processor do?
It develops colour negative motion picture film (Kodak Vision3, ORWO and similar) using the Kodak ECN-2 sequence, including removal of the remjet anti-halation backing. We supply compact ECN-2 processors for film labs, film schools and photographers processing cinema stock.
Can we set up a microfilm lab from scratch?
Yes. A minimum line is an archive writer or camera, a processor, a densitometer and permanence test kit, a duplicator and storage. We specify the line to your throughput, supply and commission it, train operators and provide film and chemistry on a standing order.
Do you service and support the equipment in Singapore?
Yes. Installation, commissioning, training, preventive maintenance and repair are carried out by our technicians in Singapore with parts and consumables held locally. The same equipment runs our own microfilming bureau.
Does microfilm output meet archival standards?
Archive writers produce silver-gelatin film on polyester base to ISO 18901, with processing controlled to ISO 18917 residual thiosulphate limits and storage to ISO 18911. We supply the test equipment and procedures needed to demonstrate compliance.
Buy equipment or use your microfilming service?
Buy when there is a continuing programme, in-house staff and a need to keep originals on site. Use the service for one-off backfile conversion, small annual volumes, or when trained operators and QC are not available in-house. We quote both ways.
