EXPM Portable Anoxia Chamber
In short: A portable nitrogen anoxia enclosure, 2.5 × 2.5 × 2.5 m (15 m³) as standard, with other sizes made to order. Automated controls hold a low-oxygen atmosphere that kills insects at every life stage, with no chemicals and no residue.
A touch-screen controller logs the full treatment cycle and emails treatment reports. It runs on 2 × 220 V. Other EXPM models: EXPM 6, EXPM 6 Light and EXPM 3 Light. Prefer not to own a chamber? See nitrogen anoxia treatment.

Remove the oxygen, not the object
The chamber is sealed and nitrogen is introduced, displacing oxygen until the atmosphere will no longer support insect life. Insects die by asphyxia and dehydration rather than by poison, which is why the method reaches eggs, larvae, pupae and adults alike — chemical treatments frequently miss eggs, and an infestation returns weeks later.
Because nitrogen is inert, nothing in the chamber reacts with the collection. Paper, parchment, leather, textiles, adhesives and mixed-media objects come out chemically unchanged, and there is no residue to off-gas afterwards or to declare when the material goes back on the shelf.
Assess
Identify the pest and the extent; isolate affected material from the collection.
Load
Objects bagged or racked and sealed into the chamber.
Purge
Nitrogen displaces the oxygen and the low-oxygen atmosphere is held under automatic control.
Clean
Material removed, inspected and cleaned of frass and debris before return to store.

The EXPM anoxia range
Every EXPM model uses the same nitrogen anoxia process. Choose on capacity, format and control features.

Anoxia kills the insects; it does not remove frass, dust or staining — cleaning is separate work
Government buyers procure through GeBIZ, where Micrographics Data is a registered supplier.
What is anoxia disinfestation?
Treatment that kills insects by removing oxygen rather than by poisoning them. The chamber is filled with nitrogen until the atmosphere cannot support insect life, and the low-oxygen condition is held long enough to kill every life stage present.
What size is the EXPM Portable Chamber?
The standard enclosure is 2.5 × 2.5 × 2.5 m (15 m³). EXPM makes other sizes to order.
What records does it keep?
The touch-screen controller logs the full treatment cycle and sends treatment reports by email.
What power does it need?
2 × 220 V.
Portable enclosure or cabinet chamber?
The EXPM 3 Light, EXPM 6 and EXPM 6 Light are cabinet chambers. The Portable Chamber is an enclosure, 15 m³ as standard, for objects or batches larger than a cabinet takes. Send your largest object and we will advise.
Does the object come out clean?
No. Anoxia kills the infestation; dead insects, frass and dust remain and must be removed afterwards with a HEPA museum vacuum or, for volumes of books, a cleaning system. Treatment and cleaning are two steps.
Should we buy a chamber or use your treatment service?
Buy where you have recurring intake to quarantine — new acquisitions, returning loans, regular pest monitoring finds. Use the service for a one-off outbreak. Institutions with continuous intake often own a chamber and use the service for overflow.
How much does an anoxia chamber cost?
It is quoted per model and configuration, delivered and installed. Micrographics Data issues a written quotation, and a GeBIZ quotation for government agencies and statutory boards.
What is the largest object you need to treat?
Send object and batch dimensions plus the pest problem you are seeing. We advise on enclosure size and protocol, and quote installed.
