Ricoh Desktop Document Scanners
In short: The departmental tier: fi-8040 at 40 ppm for up to about a thousand pages a day, fi-8150 at 50 ppm for steady work, fi-8190 at 90 ppm for the busiest desks, and the fi-8150U where a single USB workstation is all that is needed.
The fi-8170 at 70 ppm sits in the middle of this group and has its own page. Above about 3,000 pages a day, move to production models.

Match the speed to the habit, not the peak week
Departmental scanning is a routine, not a project: the morning post, yesterday’s forms, a file someone needs in the system today. What decides the right model is the volume that arrives every day, not the worst week of the year — a scanner bought for the peak sits idle for the other fifty weeks.
All four are duplex, capturing both sides in one pass, with ultrasonic double-feed detection so pages are never silently skipped and paper-protection sensing that stops the transport before a sheet tears. Those two features are the reason to buy an fi-series rather than a consumer scanner.

The Ricoh fi-series by class
Daily volume sets the class; what is in the file decides whether you also need a flatbed or A3.
Nothing bound, stapled or torn should enter a feeder. Keep a flatbed beside the desk, or specify an ADF-with-flatbed model instead
Government buyers procure through GeBIZ, where Micrographics Data is a registered supplier.
Which desktop model do we need?
Up to about 1,000 pages a day, the fi-8040. Steady daily work, the fi-8150 or fi-8170. The busiest desks, the fi-8190 at 90 ppm. Beyond roughly 3,000 pages a day, a production model is the right answer.
What is the difference between the fi-8150 and fi-8150U?
Connectivity only. The U model is USB-attached for one workstation; the standard model adds wired network capability for shared use. If more than one person will scan, take the network version.
Can they scan both sides at once?
Yes — all are duplex, and blank reverse sides can be dropped automatically in the capture profile.
Can we scan books or stapled files?
No. Everything goes through rollers. Remove fasteners first, and use a flatbed — standalone or integrated — for bound, torn or brittle items.
How much do they cost?
Quoted per model and configuration, installed. Micrographics Data issues a written quotation, and a GeBIZ quotation for government agencies and statutory boards.
How much paper arrives each day?
