Ricoh fi-8950 Production Document Scanner
In short: The top of the fi-series production range — 150 ppm duplex with a 750-sheet feeder, ultrasonic double-feed detection and paper-protection sensing. The scanner you specify when a department or bureau runs tens of thousands of pages a day and cannot stand over the machine.
If capture runs continuously through every shift, compare it against the German-built InoTec SCAMAX 6x1. For departmental volumes, the fi-8170 does the same job for a fraction of the cost.

A 750-sheet feeder changes the operator's day
Throughput on a production line is rarely limited by the sensor. It is limited by how often someone has to touch the machine. A 750-sheet hopper means an operator loads a full box section at a time and spends the interval preparing the next batch instead of feeding the last one — which is where the real gain over a 100-sheet desktop unit comes from, not from the ppm figure.
Two sensing systems protect the records. Ultrasonic double-feed detection stops the run when two sheets travel together, so pages are never silently skipped. Paper-protection sensing listens for the sound and behaviour of a sheet starting to crumple and halts the transport before it tears — the difference between a re-scan and a damaged original.
Prepare
Staples and clips removed, tears repaired, batches separated by barcode or patch code.
Load
Up to 750 sheets per load, so the operator prepares rather than feeds.
Protect
Double-feed and paper-protection sensing stop the run before a page is skipped or torn.
Output
PaperStream Capture to searchable PDF, PDF/A or TIFF, indexed and routed.
fi-8950 at a glance
Figures from Ricoh published data. Speeds are measured on clean A4 at 200/300 dpi; sustained throughput on aged or mixed stock is lower, and we will tell you what we measured on your own documents.
Where the fi-8950 sits
Production scanners are bought on sustained daily volume and on what the paper is like. Both are worth measuring before you choose.
Day-forward capture justifies owning the machine. A one-off legacy backfile usually costs less per page through our bureau, where preparation and QC are already staffed.
Government buyers procure through GeBIZ, where Micrographics Data is a registered supplier.
How fast is the Ricoh fi-8950 in practice?
Ricoh publishes 150 ppm duplex on clean A4 at 200/300 dpi. Real records — folded, stapled, mixed sizes, decades old — run slower, and preparation time usually exceeds scanning time on a backfile project. Plan the project on measured throughput with your own paper, not the datasheet figure.
What does the 750-sheet feeder actually buy us?
Operator time. At 150 ppm a 100-sheet hopper empties in under a minute, so somebody stands there all day. A 750-sheet load lets one person run the scanner and prepare the next batch at the same time, which is where the throughput gain really comes from.
What is paper-protection sensing?
The scanner monitors how sheets are moving and stops the transport when it detects a page beginning to crumple or mis-feed, rather than pulling it through and tearing it. On irreplaceable records that is the feature that matters most.
fi-8950 or InoTec SCAMAX?
The fi-8950 is the top of a departmental range — excellent for heavy daily batches with normal maintenance. SCAMAX is a bureau range built for continuous multi-shift running, with heavier transport and longer consumable intervals. If your machine will be scanning most of every working day, compare both properly; we quote either.
Can it scan A3?
Media handling depends on the configuration supplied. Tell us the largest sheet in your files and we will confirm what the quoted build takes — and where an A3 model such as the fi-8820 or fi-7600 is the better fit.
How much does the Ricoh fi-8950 cost?
It is quoted per configuration — options, software, installation, training and support all change the figure. Micrographics Data issues a written quotation, and a GeBIZ quotation for government agencies and statutory boards.
Do you install and service Ricoh in Singapore?
Yes. Delivery, installation, operator training, consumables and maintenance contracts are all handled by our own Singapore team.
