How it works

The glass runs to the edge

On a book-edge scanner the glass extends to the very edge of the housing. The book hangs over the side with one page flat on the glass, so the scan reaches to within about 2 mm of the spine without pressing the binding flat.

That removes the dark, curved gutter and distorted text you get from an ordinary flatbed or copier, without cutting pages out of the binding.

Rare, tight or fragile bindings should not be opened flat on glass. Use an overhead cradle scanner such as Book2net, or our book scanning service.

FAQ

OpticBook A300 Plus questions

See the full range under Plustek Scanners.

What does Book Pavilion do?

It scans and rotates pages automatically at preset intervals, so the operator only turns pages, then saves to PDF, searchable PDF, EPUB or image files.

Is a book-edge scanner suitable for rare books?

No. The book still lies face down on glass. Rare or fragile bindings need an overhead cradle scanner that opens the book at a limited angle.

Can it produce searchable PDF?

Yes, with the bundled OCR. Accuracy depends on the original: clean modern type is reliable, degraded or ornate printing much less so.

Do you supply and support Plustek in Singapore?

Yes. Micrographics Data supplies Plustek in Singapore with setup, software installation and local warranty handling. GeBIZ quotations on request.

How many volumes, and how fragile?

Send a sample volume. We scan it and quote purchase against our book scanning service.
