Marvelseal 360 Barrier Foil

In short: Marvelseal 360 is a flexible aluminium composite barrier foil that is ironed directly onto MDF to stop the board's emissions reaching objects in a display case. It is used to line the inside of showcases, plinths and shelves. The foil is 132 µm thick, 121.9 cm wide and supplied in 10 m or 50 m rolls.

Ironing works only on glue-bonded boards such as MDF. For solid wood, plywood or veneered boards, bond or staple the foil instead. Download the Marvelseal 360 datasheet (PDF).

How it is applied

Ironed onto the board with a household iron

MDF and similar composite boards can release formaldehyde and organic acids. Inside a closed case these gases build up and attack metals, pigments and paper. Lining every exposed board surface with Marvelseal seals the emissions in.

The matte inner side of the roll is the polyethylene (PE) heat-seal layer and goes face down on the board. The foil tears easily, so small holes are simply patched with offcuts.

01

Cut

Cut foil to the panel with a small overlap.

02

Position

Matte PE side face down on the MDF.

03

Iron

150–200 °C, working from the centre outward.

04

Patch

Seal any tears with small offcuts.

FAQ

Marvelseal 360 questions

See the full range under Museum & Library Exhibition Supplies.

What is Marvelseal 360?

An aluminium composite barrier foil, 132 µm thick, that is heat-sealed onto MDF to stop gases from the board reaching objects in a display case or cabinet.

Why line MDF inside a display case?

MDF and other composite boards can release formaldehyde and organic acids. In a closed case these build up and can tarnish metals and degrade sensitive materials. The foil seals the board surface.

Which boards can it be ironed onto?

Glue-bonded boards such as MDF. Adhesion is too low on solid wood, plywood or veneered boards; there the foil is bonded with adhesive or stapled instead.

How is it applied?

Set the iron to 150–200 °C (setting 2–3). Lay the matte PE side down on the board, iron from the centre outward and avoid going over the same spot too often.

What if the foil tears?

It tears easily. Close holes by ironing smaller pieces over them.

Should we order the 10 m or 50 m roll?

Both rolls are 121.9 cm wide. A 10 m roll covers about 12.2 m² and a 50 m roll about 61 m², before overlaps. Send us the panel sizes and we will recommend one.

Is a datasheet available?

Yes. The manufacturer's Marvelseal 360 datasheet is linked on this page.

Can government agencies buy through GeBIZ?

Yes. Micrographics Data is a GeBIZ-registered supplier and provides quotations on request.

How much board needs lining?

Send us the case drawings or panel sizes. We recommend the 10 m or 50 m roll and quote.
